Alley of Decay — Hymns in the Concrete
2026 reissue of the 2010 Belfast sessions

Alley of Decay return with Hymns in the Concrete, a crushing reissue and relaunch of their raw 2010 album Rust and Ruin. Produced by Liam Creed in a derelict Belfast warehouse studio, this seven-track collection captures the Irish-led, female-fronted sludge metal band at their most oppressive and hypnotic.

Slow, thick, downtuned riffs grind against pounding drums while dual vocals — harsh male growls and a haunting female melodic edge — cut through the mud. The sound sits in that late-2000s UK underground crossover: industrial warehouse ambience, concrete decay, and hooks buried deep in the sludge. Themes of urban ruin, rust, surveillance, poverty rows, and the quiet weight of existing on the wrong side of the street run through every track.

The lineup that defined the era:
Aoife “Ash” Kavanagh — lead vocals, primary lyricist
Katarzyna “Kat” Nowak — lead guitar, backing vocals
Daniel “Danno” McKenna — drums
Thomas “Tom” Mercer — bass

Lead single “The Selling Out of a Nation” opens the set, followed by “Breathing the Rust,” “Same Shadow, Same Smile,” “Hymns in the Concrete,” “Dance in the Heat,” “The Line Is Burning,” and the closer “Concrete Hymns.”

This digital edition delivers the full album in high-quality MP3, FLAC, and WAV. Base price is $4. Pay more if the music hits — the extra goes straight to keeping the lights on for independent releases like this one.

Produced by Liam Creed. Remixed and reissued by Riffuge Studio Productions, 2026.
Original sessions earned a 2011 Jams Indie Music Award.

From Ash: Thank you to everyone who has stood with us. May the homelands stay a place we can still call home.
