“Deep Inside: A Velvet Pyres Story”
A Gothic Steampunk Short Story Inspired by the Album

The rain fell like clockwork. Timed, measured, polite — as if even the sky bowed to the gears beneath the city. Copper towers rose through the fog, and steam hissed from every crack in the street. Somewhere between the brothels and the government halls, something foul pulsed beneath the brass-skin of civilization.

Inspector Lydia Vale adjusted her corset, ran a gloved hand down the side of her thigh-high boot, and stepped into The Velvet Guillotine — a pleasure house on the edge of the city’s lower rings. A place where no name was true and no desire denied.

She wasn’t here for desire.

“Room 13,” the madam whispered, eyes gleaming through black lace. “The Clockwork Gentleman awaits.”

She ascended the stairs, hearing muffled moans and the distant tick-tick of the city’s great undergears. Her target was more than a lover-for-hire. He was a key — to something larger, darker.

Inside, the Gentleman greeted her with a rose dipped in oil, his brass-plated jaw clicking with each sly grin. He knew things — things whispered by the walls of parliament, by the whimpering machines in the Chambers Below. Names of the missing. The vanished.

They said the city had no graveyards.

They lied.

Through seduction, threats, and sweet murmurs of violence, Lorena unravelled the truth: an entire alternate world beneath the copper bones of this one. A secret dimension — where the elite repurposed the poor. Turned flesh into servitude. Dreams into cogwheels. Souls into steam.

But Lorena wasn’t just an inspector.

She was revolution in velvet gloves.

With the help of the lost ones — the Servants of Brass who remembered their lives before — she crossed through the Copper Veil. There, her screams echoed against steel cathedrals. There, her heart caught fire.

And when she returned, she didn’t knock on the palace gates.

She burned them down.

The final scene was chaos and glory: gears snapping, steam howling, aristocrats bleeding golden ichor. And at the heart of it all, Lorena stood on a tower of broken masks, bathed in firelight, her voice louder than a choir, her body wrapped in scars and lace.

She wasn’t alone anymore.

She was legend.

She was a Pyre.
