I’ve been sitting on this one for months, tweaking, remixing, and just letting it breathe. Today, I’m finally pleased—hell, thrilled—to announce that Aria Donnavan’s latest album, Honeypot Hit, drops tomorrow on Spotify. Recorded right here at the Dallas Riffuge Studio during her visit this fall, it’s been a long road to get here, and yeah, it feels bittersweet in the best way.
For those who’ve followed the underground scene since the late 2000s, you know Aria. That raw, dark alt-rock/alt-pop edge—think Meg Myers-level intensity with a voice that could cut glass or seduce you into bad decisions. She burst out of the Dublin and London circuits back then, raw demos circulating in basement venues, and we crossed paths early. I was the Anglo-Irish producer scouting for Shadowglass Studios at the time, and we clicked instantly on her sound: ethereal yet jagged, confessional but confrontational.
Then came the falling out. You might remember the movie soundtrack debacle around 2012–2013. A big Hollywood film wanted her track for a key scene—negotiations dragged, egos clashed, and in the end, they swapped her out for a safer, more “approved” band. It stung. We both said things we shouldn’t have, doors slammed (figuratively and maybe literally once), and we went our separate ways. Aria vanished from the spotlight here in the States; rumors flew that she’d retired, faded out. Truth is, she wasn’t hiding—she’d relocated to Prague for a few years, working the European circuit, chasing a love interest that didn’t pan out, living that real underground life. No retirement, just life happening.
Fast-forward to now: she reached out. No apologies needed upfront—just a quiet “Let’s make something.” She chose Riffuge (my current home base with the team here in Dallas) and Liam Creed Productions to handle not only this new record but also re-releasing her classic underground gems from the 2008–2010 era—cleaned up, remastered, ready for fresh ears. It felt like closure, or maybe a new chapter.
The sessions were electric. Aria knocked out vocals in marathon takes—leather-clad, zero filter, that killer edge still razor-sharp. We layered in modern club-ready production: heavier 808 subs, crisp hi-hats slicing through distorted bass, icy synth stabs, trip-hop breaks that drop like a chase scene. It’s her signature dark alt-pop club remix vibe—sultry, smoky tension—but evolved. Trendy without selling out, modern without losing the grit. Think late-night stakeout turning into a violent payoff.
She hit the Dallas underground club scene hard during the visit—packed rooms, sweat and strobe lights—and even headlined a spot just outside Austin. Fans lost their minds seeing the leather-clad diva back on stage, vocals ripping through the PA like she never left. Reviews? Mixed, honestly. Some critics seemed disappointed it wasn’t over-produced Hollywood polish—they wanted the “underground-approved” version of underground, not the real thing. But Aria is the real deal. Always has been. She still kicks ass on stage and off. One handsy idiot learned that the hard way—tried groping her mid-set. Joe K (security legend) handled it quick; Austin PD rolled up fast. Kid from Tennessee drove hours just to get arrested for it. His hand’s healing, from what I hear. Message received.
All that chaos aside, the music is what matters. Honeypot Hit is a honeypot operation in album form: lure with love and lust, trap the target, collect the revenge/payday. Seduction builds to betrayal, desire to destruction—classic Aria, but sharper, more cinematic. We’ve been polishing the remixes, dialing in the vibe, and it’s ready.
